A comparative analysis of Melolonthidae and Cetoniidae beetles that habit in Rancho El Salado, Jolalpan, Puebla, Mexico is presented. It is a representative area of deciduous forest that has been poorly studied for these insects. Data were obtained from July 2012 to July 2013. We collected specimens representing 3 subfamilies, 9 genera and 29 species of Melolonthidae; and 1 subfamily, 4 genera and 4 species of Cetoniidae. Sample efficiency was assessed using species accumulation curves and a complementarity index. Simpson diversity index was calculated by month and a functional diversity analysis was performed using the Sörensen index modified by Silvestre (2000). Sample efficiency was 82.56 % (Chao 1) and 86.86 % (ACE). July of 2012, June and July of 2013 were the months with the highest diversity. Most of the species belong to the phylophagous and anthophilous guilds. The trophic spectrum throughout the months showed that June and July of 2013 were the months with the highest functional diversity. The most similar months were June and July of 2013 (48.39 %) according to the functional similarity index. The similarity was low (2.53 %) according to the collecting times (rain and dry season).Downloads
