Abstract

Mites of the family Ereynetidae include species that inhabit terrestrial hermit crabs, such as πΈπ‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘  (π΄π‘›π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘ ) π‘π‘Žπ‘π‘’π‘Žπ‘›π‘’π‘ Β Fain & Van Goethem, 1978 and πΈπ‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘  (π΄π‘›π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘ ) π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘›π‘œπ‘π‘–π‘‘π‘’π‘ Β Hunter & Poe, 1971, associated with Β πΆπ‘œπ‘’π‘›π‘œπ‘π‘–π‘‘π‘Ž π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘”π‘œπ‘ π‘’π‘  H. As part of a project to characterize the symbionts of hermit crabs in Mexico, field-collected specimens and those from biological collections were examined. In this work, we report the first record of πΈπ‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘  (π΄π‘›π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘¦π‘›π‘’π‘‘π‘’π‘ ) π‘π‘Ž. π‘π‘œπ‘’π‘›π‘œπ‘π‘–π‘‘π‘’π‘  found on πΆπ‘œπ‘’π‘›π‘œπ‘π‘–π‘‘π‘Ž π‘π‘œπ‘šπ‘π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘ π‘ π‘’π‘  H. This finding extends the known distribution of these mites both in Mexico and globally, and documents 𝐢.Β π‘π‘œπ‘šπ‘π‘Ÿπ‘’π‘ π‘ π‘’π‘ Β as a new host species. Β
