Se estudió el ciclo reproductivo de Blackburneus saylorea que se encuentra en la ladera oriente del Volcán Cofre de Perote, Veracruz. En esta especie los sistemas reproductivos son semejantes a los que presentan en otras especies de Aphodiini. Es una especie multivoltina, se reproduce durante todo el año en condiciones de terrario, como ocurre en el campo. Su ciclo de vida dura aproximadamente 45 días. Las hembras ovipositan hasta 8 huevos en una cámara de puesta en el suelo, bajo la boñiga. El desarrollo preimaginal dura aproximadamente 25 días. Las larvas estado 1 suben al estiércol fresco y ahí se desarrollan a larvas estado 2, las del estado 3 regresan al suelo, se transforman en pupas y después en imagos. Los imagos jóvenes maduran sexualmente entre los 5 y los 10 días después de la emergencia, el periodo de reproducción dura aproximadamente 10 días y después mueren.Downloads
