Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) from Jardin Botanico Ignacio Rodriguez de Alconedo of the Benemerita Universidad Autonoma de Puebla, Puebla, Mexico

A list of Formicidae species from Jardín Botánico Ignacio Rodríguez de Alconedo in the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla(BUAP) is presented. Ants were collected from October 2008 to July 2009 at 2500 m asl. Five subfamilies, nine genera and 11 species wererecorded. The greatest species richness corresponds to the Formicinae and Myrmicinae subfamilies with four species each one, followed by the subfamilies Ecitoninae, Ponerinae and Dolichoderinae with only one species each. The species Brachymyrmex heeri Forel, Camponotus conspicuus zonatus Emery, Camponotus curviscapus Emery, Monomorium cyaneum Wheeler, Paratrechina sp. aff. mexicana (Forel),Pheidole sp. aff. ceres Wheeler and Pheidole sp. aff. hoplitica Wilson are new records for the State of Puebla. We also evaluate the efficiencyof sampling ants with pitfall traps baited with tuna and honey traps.References
