Cetonines from two towns in Jalisco, Mexico (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae)

Abstract

The composition of two carpophilous cetoniinae beetle communities was studied in two localities of Jalisco state: Colinas de Río Blanco (Zapopan) and Puerta del Zapatero, (Mazamitla). Samples were taken from september through november 2005 with fruit traps with baited banana. Eight species were recorded from Mazamitla, with Gymnetis difficilis Burmeister (61%) as the dominant species; whereas in Zapopan seven species were recorded with Cotinis laticornis Bates (51%) and Neoscelis dohrni (Westwood)(36%) as the most abundant species. Four species are shared between the localities: Cotinis laticornis, C. mutabilis, Hologymnetis cinerea and H. moroni.
