LEPIDOPTERA: Biología de Acharia extensa (Schaus, 1896) (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae) en cultivo de café en La Montaña de Guerrero, México

Se estudiaron algunos aspectos de la biología y distribución de la palomillaAcharia extensa (Lepidoptera: Limacodidae) en la región de La Montaña de Guerrero, México. Se registra la localización de las larvas en por lo menos siete hospederos (Inga sp, Inga sp1, Quercus sp, Quercus sp1, Quercus sp2, Byrsonima crassifolia L. y Coffea arabica L.). Se describe el ciclo de vida (anual) del lepidóptero en condiciones controladas. El comportamiento de las larvas en los hospederos incluye la formación de “agallas” para proteger a las colonias de inmaduros y al parecer existe un comportamiento diferencial en cuanto a las condiciones y localización de las “agallas” en los distintos hospederos. Se registra por primera vez que una proporción importante (26 %) de las larvas examinadas (N = 120) fue parasitada por individuos del género Systropus (Diptera: Bombyliidae), y se registraron niveles de parasitismo comparables a un año (1 generación) después. Se discuten las posibles implicaciones del efecto urticante de las larvas sobre la salud de los pobladores de la región estudiada.Published
