Abstract

To date, for Mexico there is only a record of Cryptognathus sp. from Puebla. In recent projects carried out in the states of Mexico and Hidalgo, two species of the genus Favognathus were recorded: F. barrasi and F. ochraceus respectively; information that expands the known distribution range of these species both in Mexico and worldwide. The first only known from the Galapagos Islands and the second from the United States of America. Furthermore, this work highlights the relevance of research focused on understanding the biological diversity of ecosystems, especially the soil and its fauna, since it plays a central role in various ecological functions of the soil.
